Unlike paper,  marbling fabric was not possible until the 1950’s with the invention of acrylic paints that do not wash out of fabric.   Marbled textiles are one-sided because they are painted, as opposed to dyed.  The uses of marbled textiles are endless, and both synthetic and natural fibers can be marbled.
